Casa Spallani (Tuscany)

CASA SPALLANI
IN VERTELLI, TUSCANY

It is a Tuscan cottage located in a very small village which was a former convent and the whole place is steeped in atmosphere. The house has been recently and tastefully restored to provide comfortable holiday accommodation in an idyllic setting. There are extensive and spectacular views from the terrace and there is nothing which spoils the endless vista of the Tuscan countryside. With swimming pool.

The House:

The cottage provides two bedrooms which are newly furnished in Tuscan style with wrought iron and chestnut furniture. There is a possibility of two further beds in the sitting room which leads out onto the terrace which has the advantage of table and chairs for 'al fresco' dining.

There is one newly completed bathroom with wash hand basin, shower cubicle and WC. The kitchen is large with more than adequate space for a dining
table and 6 chairs. There is a full range of new kitchen units, with fridge, microwave, built in full size oven and four-burner hob. This together with extensive work surface makes the kitchen a perfect place to cook 'Italian meals'. Perhaps the most imposing feature of this
living kitchen is the huge ancient Tuscan stone fireplace.

There is a wonderful swimming pool.

The area:

The house is situated about 50 Km (30 Miles) east of Florence with the journey time being about an hour by car. The nearest large village, Strada/Castel San Niccolo with a wide range of local shops being about 5 minutes away by car. The closest shop to the house is 3 or 4 minutes away.

The closest town is Bibbiena which is about 15 minutes by car. Arezzo, the provincial capital is about 40 minutes away.

The area is very safe if you have children and depending on their age, there is plenty of space for them to enjoy.

Places to visit:

We always aim to provide a high level of support to our guests and this begins with a warm welcome where we try to identify your sightseeing wishes while on holiday with us and
then provide appropriate advice about places to visit and restaurants to try.

Places to visit are many and varied and include:

- The local Tuscan Hill Towns and Villages - one of the most beautiful being Poppi about 10 Minutes drive away.

- Arezzo, the provincial capital with its elegant squares, winding streets and wide range of shops.

- Siena can be reached as a day visit.

- Cortona, the beautiful town made famous by the book and film 'Under the Tuscan Sun' - about an hour by car.

- The Sanctuary of St. Francis at La Verna - a fascinating place to visit with the site being spectacularly located. This is where the saint spent much of his life and can be reached in just over 30 minutes.

- Florence is about an hour away by car and there is a very convenient bus if you do not fancy the Florentine traffic.

- Rome is also possible as a day visit. Drive to Arezzo and then take the train from there with the rail journey being about an hour.

Even though the kitchen is beautiful and fully equipped there are many good local restaurants to tempt and we are always happy to make suggestions, recommendations and reservations where necessary.

Transport: A car is necessary.

There are also buses to Florence, Poppi and Bibienna that stop 1 mile (1.5 Km) from the house and leave almost every hour (a dozen of buses both ways a day) ( http://www.sita-on-line.it/SITA-Toscana/HomeToscana.htm ).

There are also local transportation services towards Strada e Cetica; these companies do TAXI service as well.
